Project Dirt... so, what’s it all about?
• Connecting local green projects.
• Making it easier to be green.
• Facilitating activity (sharing, funding, volunteering etc).
• Learning from real life projects.
Q&A by Jack (Peckham Power Co) ... last year
A rather serious, but clearly defined “About Us”
Project Dirt was set up by a couple of mates (Mark and Nick) to make green living easier and more understandable.
We wanted to facilitate sustainable activity taking place and to make the learning more accessible. We also believed green living should be an upgrade, it should be fun – and it should be progressive.
So, Project Dirt was started on the current test site in Clapham Junction in April 2008, with 1 project and 5 members. The Project Dirt community has since grown to its current size through word of mouth.
The site provides individuals, community groups, companies, organisations and the government (mainly local authorities) a platform to come together and work on tangible green projects.
Why did we set up Project Dirt?
The green space is too confusing. Too many people doing their own projects are re-inventing the wheel. And those looking to learn are confused.
Project Dirt was set up to help people and organisations collaborate over green issues and make things happen. We’re huge advocates of people’s skill, tenacity, talent and passion in making things happen (in this context – green change). This site is just a platform. The drivers are the people.
What we are and what we're not!
We’re not a website, we’re a community. We’re not exclusive, we’re inclusive. We’re not preaching a message, we’re improving information links. We’re not another forum; we’re a projects based network encouraging activity.
