WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT? We think that sharing food with strangers is one of the nicest ways to spread happiness. And if the food free, and has been saved from going to waste, it makes it even tastier! Inspired and supported by the wonderful People's Kitchen (Passing Clouds, Dalston, East London), Brixton People's Kitchen collects food surplus from local shops and markets, invites local people to cook together, and welcomes everyone to enjoy a delicious meal with each other. WHAT WILL HAPPEN? 11-12pm: Surplus Food Collection and Drop Off 12-3pm: Communal Food Preparation 2-5pm: Late Lunch Please let us know you are coming: Email [email protected] or contact Fan 07810288879 if you would like to COOK. Volunteering Day with Carat UK September 15th 2017

We welcomed back Carat UK to Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses for a second day of volunteering in mid September.Like their colleagues, this was a lovely bunch of people and we had another great day - punctuated again at lunch time by delicious pizzas from local restaurant 500 Degrees. This time, we had some of the team on jam making and pickling.  The jam was made using Diana Henry's Scarlet Pepper and Chilli Jam from our beautiful greenhouse grown peppers and chillies. We also pickled our chillies too using a Sarah Raven recipe.  Then Nigella provided us with our Ginger Bread recipe - delicious!  This seriously wowed the guests at our Ginger Fete on the following day. These guests also benefited from Carat's nicely designed Fun Ginger Facts distributed throughout our Ginger Display in our lower greenhouse. And the Carat team made fab signs for all our Ginger Fete games - Build and Bash a Pot pyramid, Apple Bobbing, Splat the Rat, Face Painting and Tug of War. Not forgetting construction of a frame for our scarecrows (pictured). The team also made our decking on our Pond Dipping Platform super safe by screwing down the fab Step on Safety Anti Slip Grip. Finally, a team kindly laminated and distributed 20 posters around the park and neighbourhood advertising our fab new 2 to 4 year old Story Stompers group. Another great day - many thanks to Carat for all the work and to Project Dirt and Dentsu Aegis for arranging and enabling the connection.
