the paradox of ethical consumerism
wednesday, 17th november | 7-8:30pm | Evolve Wellness Centre
Up and coming sustainability life couch Drew Woodhouse will be talking about ethical consumerism, it’s history, his tips, and the dilemmas he faced when running an organic food stall, and the profound experience of not buying clothes for a year!
Drew will explain why he believes that the informed consumer is the most powerful force in tackling climate change, and how we can all become empowered by following simple steps in our every day shopping. He will demystify what ethical consumerism is all about, provide clear ways of how to use our purchasing power and offer tips on what sustainable products to buy for the upcoming holiday season.
Presented by Drew Woodhouse: Back in 2007 Drew Woodhouse made a commitment that he would work only for companies making clear efforts to be ethical and environmentally sustainable.
This commitment forced Drew to reassess his whole way of life. For three years he volunteered and worked throughout the emerging environmental sector. Drew is now an Eco Homes Consultant and an up and coming outreach worker in sustainability.
During the summer of 2010 – as part of the London Festival of Architecture – Drew lived in a zero-carbon, off-grid building which was situated in a newly built urban orchard. He lived in the orchard according to a low carbon philosophy of renewable energy, public transport, cycling, and buying food from local markets. Currently he is advising on a new eco tourism development in Cornwall.
