This simple graphic symbol is intended to communicate the concept of extinction. The circle represents the planet, and the hourglass inside signifies that time is rapidly running out for many species.

Hopefully it will become as universally recognised as the peace symbol, so that an awareness of this vitally important issue is heightened in the public consciousness. The goal of this group is to help make that happen.

If you feel motivated to help spread the message by creating the symbol in whatever form, size or location you desire then please do so, and also feel free to join the group and post up your pictures, ideas or any other comments.

Thanks! :)

Have noticed quite a few of these small tiles in various colours appearing on walls around London lately...

I'm not sure if they're actually for sale, I think it might have just been a personal project. I just noticed it in the flickr group today. I'll get in touch with the guy though and ask if he'll be willing to make the source file of the artwork available for free so that anyone can get their own one printed. Great to see spontaneous initiatives like this arising. :)

Somebody in Australia has made a t-shirt with the extinction symbol and a list of over 1000 extinct species and subspecies. http://flic.kr/p/am6FPW

I like the symbol, simple and effective. I'll look to start posting it soon.

The Festival Hall one (shot below) is still there, although the tide is gradually taking it!
