Friends of Railway Fields

About

Railway Fields used to be a railway goods yard until 1967.

It is now a one hectare 'local nature reserve', owned by Haringey Council. The British Trust of Conservation Volunteers Haringey branch are based here, but are busy working elsewhere in the borough, so the Friends of Railway Fields are responsible for helping out with maintaining the site, and we organise and run most of the events.

Railway Fields is the only place in the world (!) that contains Haringey Knotweed! A hybrid between the dreaded Japanese Knotweed and Russian Vine, and was discovered by the patron of the FoRF, botanist David Bevan.

The site, despite being small, has quite a large newt filled pond (currently with lots of tadpoles), a wildflower meadow and lots of woodland. It is a true oasis off busy Green Lanes.

The Friends group was started in October 2010, and meets on the last Saturday of every month to carry out conservation tasks and have a monthly meeting. There are also lots of events in between.

Upcoming Events

Saturday 31 March, 10.00am: Practical conservation session and monthly meeting.

Visit the website for details of future dates.
