Making environmental change happen

Ossie from Ossie's Ginger Beer - a Brixton based company that makes organic ginger beer is looking for a local source of ginger.

Ossie is very green minded - a suporter of the Brixton Pound and Transition Town Brixton.

Ossie currently buys his ginger in from Thailand and China, but would love to find a local source if he could. I'm therefore keen to see if, through our various food growing networks, we might be able to secure at least some of his raw material locally. It would be excellent if this Brixton-made product could also be grown locally as well.

He will obviously pay for any grown that is of a quality he can use. Ginger needs to be grown indoors in this country and well watered, as it is a tropical plant/spice, so it would need to be motivated individuals doing it at home really. It would also be suited to an office window sill.

I don't know. I have been asking around today and I can't find anyone that knows of any ginger being produced in the UK. An internet search suggests that we might get pretty flowers in pots indoors but that's about all... I would love for that to be wrong and will keep looking!
