Winterton House Organic Garden (WHOG) successfully obtained 6 hens, after a lot of pushing and shoving, via our Chair Melvyn, regarding Tower Hamlets Council and our housing association. We've had them a week this Tuesday and it's hard work looking after them, great fun too and their eggs are lovely!! A lot tastier than the Fresh Farm Eggs in the super markets as they're about 2 weeks old when bought. We're not at full production yet but they've really settled in after their very long journey and new surroundings, they're now collectively known as. "Our Girls!!" A name I thought of and Melvyn agreed with!!
The last few nights when we went to put them to bed at 6PM they're already in the hen house ready to be tucked in!!!!!!
Melvyn has decided on a price of £2.00 per 1/2 dozen, which I agreed with, which isn't much more than in the shops as round here they range from £1.00-£1.64 per1/2 dozen. As they're free range they have a wander round on the grass and peck at the earth, weeds, any worms and bugs that surface!!
