An innovative research project led by London Wildlife Trust, looking to create a culture of community water management to reduce flood risk in the Effra basin in South London. The Effra is one of the lost rivers of London, attributed in part to causing repeated flooding in the Herne Hill area since it was channelled underground in Victorian times to allow for urban development.
We are looking to reduce flood risk through community-led practical projects to reduce runoff such as creating rain gardens, green roofs and removing areas of impermeable paving, as well as increasing education and awareness to increase water efficiency baehaviour in the area.
