Community Options is the trading name of Heritage Care's specialist mental health services and The Credo Creative Arts project is a project delivered by Community Options in Orpington, that is especially suited to people that have lived expereince of mental ill health.
Credo provides a space that gives people the chance to explore their creativity in a friendly and supportive enviroment. The ceramic sessions are led by a professionally trained ceramicist who is expereinced in working with people with mental health issues.
Particpants are able to book themselves on time limited courses for a small contibutory fee that goes towards the cost of running the project.
During courses people experience a variety of teramic techinques making 2D and 3D ceramic wares using hand building techniques such as pinching and slab work. As people progress and confidence builds people are encouraged to use the wheel to produce ceramic items and fully explore their creative potential.
People that take part build new social networks, grow in confidence and gain real satisfaction from devloping their creative skills. Some particpants have even gone on to sell the items they make on creative websites.
The funding from Project Dirt will have a real impact on the organisations ability to continue to deliver this project. With no statutory funding, staff from accross Community Options fundraise to subsidise the cost of running the project, as many people that take part are on a limited income.
The Walnuts Community Grant award means that we can go on to purchase much needed ceramic supplies such as equipment, specialist clay and glazes so that we can continue to change peoples lives for the better through creativity.
Project Dirt has now become Semble.
