Tree Wardens Group, Merton [TWG,M], with the help of local volunteers, planted a 220 mtr fruit hedge on a stretch of common land in the autumn of 2010. The idea was to encourage locals, especially the kids, to look after the patch, and enjoy the fruits.
There was about 95% plant success rate, due in no small part to mulching after planting.
However, weeds have penetrated the mulch during this erratic summer. Most cause no concern and serve to retain the moisture, but some need removing or cutting back.
