The British Museum of Food

The British Museum of Food (BMOF) is Britain's first dedicated museum entirely devoted to the history, evolution, science, art & culture of food. It is a new kind of museum: a multi-sensory and multi-disciplinary space that brings the world of food to life with exhibits you can taste, smell and eat.

BMOF is in the process of establishing charitable status and as a newly established charity it will be looking to secure a permanent central London space comprising multiple large and small exhibition galleries, library, programme of exhibitions and associated talks, events, workshops, learning and participatory projects.

As we count down to the opening of our permanent home, we will be running a series of experimental, pre-opening seasons across London, the UK & Internationally built around seasonal themes. We're delighted to announce that the first of these is SCOOP: The Wonderful World of Ice Cream which will be running late June - late September in a temporary space in Kings Cross's iconic Gasholders Building.

SCOOP: The Wonderful World of Ice Cream will featurehighlights from the world’s largest collection of ice cream paraphernalia. This never-before-exhibited collection is drawn from 14,000 vintage equipment, service-ware, advertising, and music collected over 40 years by Robin and Caroline Weir. Robin and Caroline Weir are the authors of the award-winning book — "Ice Creams Sorbets and Gelati The Definitive Guide" Grub Street Publishers.Ranging from Victorian ice cream moulds to an Andy Warhol print (Warhol was a known ice cream lover) this collection is full of discovery for all visitors.

The exhibitionwill include curated galleries, and a programme of talks and events juxtaposed against demonstrations and workshops that will further bring the concept to life, including real icebergs, ice cream weather and glow-in-the-dark ice cream, further details of the show and programming will be announced shortly.
