About the opportunity

Volunteer as a garden helper at the De Frene Market Garden, Sydenham, SE London Sydenham Garden is a charity which helps and supports people with mental health issues and promote recovery. We are looking for volunteers to work at the De Frene Market Garden site on Wednesday be-tween 10:30 am and 2:30 pm. This site is approximately a one acre, supporting a large greenhouse, poly tunnels, apple orchard and a number of raised beds. The project is to build a sustainable organic fruit and vegetable garden, aimed to sell the site produce to the local community through our veg box scheme, open days and fairs. The volunteers will be met by warm, friendly and knowledgeable staff that will provide training and instruction as required. The work will cover planting, harvesting and looking after the crops on site, plus helping out in general maintenance and small building projects. You will be able to develop your own skills and technical knowledge in community horticulture as well as bringing your experience and ideas to the project. Founded in 2002, Sydenham Garden is a registered charity involved in improving the health and well being of residents living in Lewisham, Bromley and south east London. We provide gardening and creative opportunities for our co-workers referred from organisations and health sector agencies.
