We need regular gardening volunteers. You don't need any experience, enthusiasm counts for a lot! Gardening includes: pruning shrubs, hedge trimming, lawn mowing, weeding, sometimes planting, sweeping up and litter picking, mulching, bark spreading....and stashing all the waste in big green bags for recycling.
Wear old clothes and stout shoes.
We have secured a small grant to employ someone to teach a small group how to grow vegetables and some soft fruit. We will be using our existing allotment site and setting up some new beds for people to get involved. The people we want to target are those with disabilities, including mental health issues, older people, those with health issues and refugees.
There will be weekly sessions throughout the growing season. We garden organically and the teaching will reflect this.
If you are interested, or know someone please contact us by email or phone.
Sunnyside Community Gardens is an open access park, so people benefit from it all the time, even when the project is not open. It is in an area of high density housing, with some high rise blocks, and our little park is a well loved green area which provides a much needed respite from urban living. We are a site of importance for nature conservation, so our beneficiaries are not all human! When we have events we have about 30-50 people attending the most popular, 5-10 when not so popular (and in January)
